Digital Secretary condemns X for skipping RNLI abuse meeting and vows tougher doxxing laws

Lisa Nandy, the Digital Secretary, denounced X’s absence from a round-table on the online abuse of RNLI volunteers as evidence of a “disgraceful attitude” toward its social responsibilities. She pointed to recent incidents where the names, photos and addresses of RNLI staff, police officers, journalists and other workers were posted online by anti-migrant protesters and trade-union campaigns. Nandy said the government will tighten the law to criminalise doxxing and ensure such content is removed promptly.

She also warned about videos glorifying dangerous driving after a crash on the A66 killed seven people, including two police officers. The Prime Minister’s spokesperson condemned the abuse of rescue volunteers and pledged police support for any illegal online activity. X has been contacted for comment.
