DIICOT Seizes Property of Former Pro-Russian Presidential Candidate in Ilfov
Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors ordered the seizure of a house in Mogoșoaia belonging to 64-year-old Călin Georgescu, who is under investigation for organized crime and serious fraud.
DIICOT announced that it has placed a seizure on a property located in the commune of Mogoșoaia, Ilfov County, which belongs to Călin Georgescu, a 64-year-old former candidate who advocated pro-Russian positions in a past presidential election. Prosecutors are examining him for alleged participation in an organized crime group and for committing serious, continuous fraud. The seizure was ordered after a court denied a request to detain him for 30 days pending trial.
The operation is being carried out jointly with officers from the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Romanian Police. Throughout the proceedings, the authorities affirm that Georgescu retains all procedural rights and the presumption of innocence under Romanian law.
