Discrepancy between Vice President Sara Duterte’s SALN and Gencorp SEC Records Sparks Probe
Vice President Sara Duterte claims a stake in Gencorp Industries, yet her name does not appear in the firm’s SEC filings, prompting prosecutors to allege a misdeclaration.
The impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte focus on a possible shareholding in Gencorp Industries Inc., a company that has secured multi-million-peso contracts with Davao City under Mayor Sebastian Duterte. Duterte’s 2024-2025 Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth states she has owned Gencorp stock since 2013, yet the company’s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission do not list her name.
Prosecutors view the inconsistency as a constitutional conflict of interest and a potential violation of the anti-dummy law, insisting the SALN declaration is a sworn admission. The defense points to mechanisms such as private trust agreements or corporate nominees, noting that the JTC Group of Companies, identified as an associated person, also lacks Duterte’s name. SEC registration director Gerardo del Rosario presented these possibilities before the impeachment court, while the prosecution dismissed any clerical error claim. The defense has not yet offered counter-evidence, leaving the matter unresolved pending further testimony.
