Disney announces another round of layoffs affecting several hundred staff

Disney is cutting a few hundred jobs across human resources, IT and various divisions, marking the third layoff wave this year under CEO Josh D’Amaro.

Disney disclosed a new round of job reductions, eliminating a few hundred positions primarily in human resources and information technology across its corporate structure and multiple divisions. This is the third set of layoffs this year under the direction of recently appointed CEO Josh D’Amaro. Earlier cuts in April removed roughly 1,000 roles after D’Amaro created a consolidated enterprise marketing division overseen by chief marketing and brand officer Asad Ayaz.

A subsequent wave in July trimmed several hundred jobs at Pixar, one outlet, Disney Entertainment Television and the studio segment, with Pixar bearing most of the studio cuts and National Geographic most of the TV reductions. In August, the company extended early-retirement buyout offers to long-standing executives to further lower costs. Disney reported a workforce of about 231,000 full- and part-time employees at the close of its fiscal year in September 2025.

Why it matters

The layoffs reflect Disney's ongoing cost-cutting strategy, affecting hundreds of workers and signaling challenges in its media and entertainment operations.
