Disneyland Reveals Details of Expansive New Avatar-Themed Oceanic Land
Disney California Adventure showcased models of a new Avatar-inspired area, featuring a large boat ride and a coastal biome drawn from recent films.
During the recent D23 event, Disney presented detailed models of a forthcoming Avatar-themed expansion at Disney California Adventure in Anaheim. Unlike the Florida counterpart that highlights the floating mountains of the original film, this version draws heavily on "Avatar: The Way of Water" and future installments, showcasing a coastal environment with massive wave-like rocks and a cascading waterfall. At its core will be a sizable boat ride, designed to seat four to five guests per row across six rows, offering a mix of indoor scenes with Pandoran sea life and open-sea thrills.
The project will occupy the current Hollywood Backlot area, home to the "Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!" attraction, which Disney confirmed will continue operating until at least 2027 while construction proceeds elsewhere. The reveal signals Disney's ongoing investment in immersive, franchise-based experiences for its California guests.
