Displaced families in Nimroz demand land, homes and food aid as winter approaches

Hundreds of families displaced to Zaranj in Nimroz province are urging the Islamic Emirate and aid groups for land, housing and food assistance ahead of winter.

In Nimroz's central city of Zaranj, dozens of families who were displaced from the Daralam district due to drought and poverty are still residing in makeshift tents. With winter approaching, they have asked the Islamic Emirate and aid agencies to allocate land, build homes and deliver food aid. One displaced resident, Noor al-Rahman, specifically requested land and a house, while another, 42-year-old Ilyas, highlighted the difficulty of surviving extreme heat and cold, especially for children.

Nimroz officials note that cash and food assistance have been distributed in recent years, and they have forwarded shelter proposals to the Ministry of Refugees and Returnees. The ministry's head, Abdullah Riaz, said the proposals are under review and hopes for approval. The families stress that temporary help is insufficient and call for durable, quality housing to ensure a stable and safe life.

Why it matters

The plea underscores growing humanitarian needs among displaced Afghans as winter threatens their fragile living conditions.
