Displacement in southern Lebanon remains fluid as Israeli attacks continue
After a peak of over 1.2 million displaced people in April, the number in Lebanon has fallen to about 330,000, but UN officials say the situation remains unstable.
More than six months after Israel intensified its campaign in Lebanon, the displacement crisis is gradually shrinking from a high of over 1.2 million in April to about 330,000, according to IOM figures. UNHCR’s Nadine Mazloum stresses that the displacement pattern remains volatile, with the risk of further attacks prompting continual movement. Israeli forces now occupy over 50 villages, and the conflict has killed more than 4,380 people and forced hundreds of thousands from their homes across the south, the Bekaa Valley and Beirut.
Returnees like Soujoud Ramadan are staying in makeshift shelters such as a school in Froun, while many families live in rented accommodation and face depleted savings and mounting debts. Around 80 % of the displaced are concentrated in five districts, with Beirut alone hosting roughly 31 % of them. Humanitarian experts warn that without debris removal, home rehabilitation and livelihood support, many returns may remain fragile.
