Disqualified driver sentenced to ten years after fatal high-speed crash

In Nottingham, Rowan Grant was convicted of multiple offences after a high-speed collision on the A610 Nuthall Road killed ex-soldier Andrew Lister and left his partner Laura Whatton with life-changing injuries. The 34-year-old, disqualified from driving since 2011, accelerated to 87 mph, weaving through traffic and striking a stationary vehicle. Evidence showed he was considerably over the legal limit for THC and had a history of epilepsy and other criminal convictions.
Judge Stuart Rafferty KC sentenced him to ten years in prison and ordered a lifetime revocation of his driving licence. The court heard that Grant initially blamed his girlfriend for the crash, a claim the judge rejected as a lie. Lister’s family described the loss as devastating, noting his military service and young daughter.
