Dixon Technologies targets EMS top-five status by expanding beyond smartphones
Dixon Technologies India Ltd. announced plans to move beyond smartphone assembly into higher-margin components like camera modules, aiming for a top-five global EMS ranking within ten years.
Dixon Technologies India Ltd., founded by Sunil Vachani, is seeking to diversify its business beyond the smartphone assembly that now generates over 90% of its revenue. The company plans to add higher-margin products such as camera modules, servers and defense equipment, and to increase its laptop production. Vachani said that Dixon aims to rank within the top ten global electronics manufacturing services (EMS) providers in five years and break into the top five in ten years.
The ambition dovetails with India’s policy of attracting electronics production through subsidies, as the country still trails China and Taiwan. Recent moves include securing approval for a joint smartphone venture with Vivo’s Indian arm and partnering with a Taiwanese firm to supply optical components for data-center servers, with a second plant slated to open in late November. Vachani highlighted that India imports about $15 billion of IT hardware annually, representing a major growth opportunity for Dixon.
Why it matters
Dixon’s expansion could boost India’s share of global electronics manufacturing and create higher-margin jobs.
