Djibouti football body faces accusations of fund misuse and favoritism
A government audit has alleged that the Djibouti Football Federation misappropriated FIFA and Saudi funding, prompting calls for leadership change.
A 2024 government audit accuses the Djibouti Football Federation of favouritism and inflated costs in the construction of its headquarters, alleging misuse of both FIFA and Saudi Arabian funds. The report, triggered a protest from a local club manager who threatened to boycott the season unless the federation’s leadership is overhauled. Mohamed Elmi Farah stepped down from the executive committee, expressing doubts about how the federation handles its resources.
Souleiman Hassan Waberi, who also sits on the FIFA Council for CAF, maintains that FIFA’s monitoring has found no evidence of misappropriation, though he admitted past shortcomings in competitive bidding. FIFA and CAF have not commented further, and the Djibouti government has not responded to inquiries.
Why it matters
