DMK accuses Tamil Nadu chief minister of mixing official UK trip with friend's race

Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay embarked on an official trip to the United Kingdom to attract foreign investment and examine sports-infrastructure options for a proposed Motor Sports City near Chennai. During the visit he ceremonially hoisted the green flag to start the Michelin Le Mans Cup race at Silverstone, where actor-racer Ajith Kumar was competing. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, through spokesperson TKS Elangovan and MLA Markandeyan, condemned the outing, suggesting Vijay was there primarily to watch his friend's race.

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam countered, arguing the encounter was appropriate for a state leader and could boost the "Brand Tamil Nadu" image. The episode was widely shared online, with footage of Vijay hugging Ajith going viral, and drew comments comparing the duo's fame to Hollywood icons.
