DNA of unidentified man detected on clothing of missing Trieste woman

Forensic experts found DNA from the same unknown male on Liliana Resinovich's jeans and a bag holding her body, linking the evidence to the ongoing Trieste investigation.

Investigators uncovered DNA belonging to an unidentified man on the jeans of Liliana Resinovich, who vanished in December 2021 and whose remains were located in January near a former psychiatric hospital in Trieste. The same DNA was also present on one of the black bags containing the corpse. The findings answer a query from the Trieste preliminary investigations judge and will be reviewed at an upcoming hearing. Additional analysis showed no soil traces on Resinovich's shoes and confirmed direct contact between her jacket and her husband Sebastiano Visintin's jacket on the day she disappeared.

Why it matters

The DNA evidence could identify a new suspect and advance the cold case of a missing woman in Italy.
