DNA samples from families of missing Malaysians in Nepal still awaiting analysis, says MASFIH
MASFIH spokesman says none of the DNA samples from families of 55 missing Malaysians have been processed yet.
Following a meeting with government agencies in Putrajaya, MASFIH spokesperson Dr Manivannan Rethinam said DNA material supplied by relatives of 55 Malaysians still missing after the Nepal floods has not been processed. He said 98 samples were handed to Nepal and three to China in a format requested by Chinese authorities, but not a single one has been analysed. The collection aims to match family samples with DNA extracted from any bodies recovered in Nepal, after which the remains would be tagged and could be exhumed for repatriation.
He explained that a confirmed match would allow families to travel to Nepal to retrieve the bodies. However, the families have asked for formal confirmation of the process, which officials have not yet provided.
