DNC Committee Passes Resolutions to End ICE and Enforce Leahy Law Globally

During the Democratic National Committee’s Resolutions Committee session, delegates adopted two progressive proposals. The first resolution calls on Democratic lawmakers to draft legislation that eliminates ICE and creates an immigration framework offering citizenship pathways, worker protections, and dignity for affected individuals, while also seeking accountability for DHS officials who have misled investigators or harmed protesters.

The second resolution reaffirms the DNC’s commitment to the Leahy Laws, demanding thorough vetting and transparent reporting on U.S. security assistance to ensure no aid goes to human-rights violators. Both measures were presented by Louisiana DNC member Michele Johnson and received committee approval, paving the way for a full-DNC vote at the closing session in Austin.
