Doctor recommends a 30-second daily habit to cut older adults' fall risk
Dr Amir Khan advises standing on one leg while brushing your teeth for 30 seconds each day to markedly lower the chance of falling.
Dr Amir Khan, known from ITV programmes, posted a TikTok outlining five daily health practices for adults over 35. He highlighted a 30-second balance drill—standing on one leg while brushing teeth—to train proprioceptors and the cerebellum, which he claims sharply cuts fall risk. Additional advice includes getting five minutes of outdoor morning light to reset the circadian clock, performing brief high-intensity bursts such as fast stairs to boost VO2 max, monitoring blood pressure at home to catch early rises, and doing strength-building exercises twice a week to maintain muscle and bone density. Khan emphasized that each habit is quick, free, and can meaningfully improve aging outcomes.
Why it matters
Simple daily actions can help older adults avoid falls, a leading cause of injury and hospitalisation.
