Documentary Exposes Dane Cook's Half-Brother Embezzling $12 Million and Stashing Cash in Pasta Sauce

A new film reveals that Dane Cook's half-brother and former manager, Darryl McCauley, stole at least $12 million and hid bundles of cash inside pasta sauce containers.

“Funny Money: The Dane Cook Story,” set to stream on September 29, details the financial betrayal by Dane Cook’s half-brother and former business manager, Darryl McCauley. In 2008, McCauley began siphoning money from Cook’s accounts in increments of $20,000, $50,000 and even $100,000, eventually amassing at least $12 million. He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including larceny and embezzlement, and was sentenced to six years in prison, with a court order to return the stolen funds.

The documentary shows McCauley storing cash in a safe, wrapping it in plastic, and hiding it inside pasta-sauce containers, a detail Cook likens to a TV drama. After completing his sentence, McCauley disappeared, leaving Cook to wonder about the full extent of the loss. Cook narrates his lingering suspicion that more money may still be unaccounted for.
