Documentary ‘What Will I Become?’ Puts Transmasculine Struggles and Suicide in Focus

The film ‘What Will I Become?’ examines transmasculine suicide through the stories of Blake Brockington and Kyler Prescott, while its co-directors Logan Rozos and Lexie Bean appear sparingly.

‘What Will I Become?’ is a documentary that tackles the alarming rate of suicide among transmasculine individuals, citing statistics that over 50% of transmasculine boys have attempted suicide. Directors Logan Rozos and Lexie Bean frame the narrative with their own coming-out journeys but keep the focus on two protagonists: Blake Brockington, whose archival interviews and diary readings reveal his rise from prom king to a victim of transphobic abuse, and Kyler Prescott, whose story is told mainly through his parents’ candid reflections after his death.

The film premiered at the Berlinale in February and later screened at the BlackStar festival, seeking wider distribution. While praised for its intimate portrayals and use of music and poetry, reviewers point out an uneven balance due to the directors’ early on-screen appearances and a brief, underdeveloped segment featuring a trans hotline advocate named Akewele.
