Dodgers acquire Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal in deadline blockbuster

Los Angeles secured two-time Cy Young awardee Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers in what is being called the most significant transaction of the trade deadline. The Dodgers sent outfielder Zyhir Hope, right-handed pitcher River Ryan and another right-hander, Brady Smith, to Detroit in return. Although the Dodgers had earlier indicated they lacked acute roster needs, they moved to acquire Skubal, who is currently 7-5 with a 2.79 ERA and will hit free agency after the season.

The Tigers, after a disappointing run that left them well below.500, decided to trade the left-hander, who had missed time earlier due to elbow surgery. Skubal’s addition bolsters an already strong rotation that has been missing key arms such as Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow. The trade underscores Los Angeles’ commitment to pursuing a third straight World Series title.
