Lauer’s placement comes after a difficult 13-8 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, where he allowed seven runs in three innings. He is now the third pitcher in recent weeks to land on the IL, following Justin Wrobleski’s forearm issue and Roki Sasaki’s finger blister.
With the rotation already trimmed to five arms, the team had been planning to call up Emmet Sheehan for a spot start, but now faces a longer-term gap. The Dodgers’ core of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tarik Skubal, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow must carry the load while the club also shuffled Will Klein to the 60-day IL, ending his regular-season availability. These roster changes come as the team battles for a top-two National League playoff seed.
