DOJ indicts five people for illegal voting in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Wisconsin

The Department of Justice filed federal indictments against five people for alleged illegal voting or assistance with fraudulent registration in the 2022 and 2024 elections. Two defendants are identified as illegal immigrants, two as non-citizens, and a U.S. citizen is charged with helping his wife register and vote unlawfully. The charges span Pennsylvania, where a couple and a Mexican national face up to ten years, New Jersey, where a Mexican national is accused of false citizenship certification, and Wisconsin, where another Mexican national allegedly voted in the 2022 midterms.
Penalties range from up to one year to more than a decade in prison. Officials emphasized that protecting the voting process is a critical democratic responsibility.
