DOJ memo lets states drop support for home-based disability care
The Justice Department issued guidance that relieves states of any duty to fund community living services for people with disabilities.
A new Department of Justice interpretation states that states are not required to provide resources that enable disabled individuals to live outside institutions. The guidance was released under the Trump administration as federal Medicaid funding faces steep reductions. Disability advocates warn that the policy could severely limit independent living options.
