DOJ subpoenas Senator Ruben Gallego's leadership PAC amid campaign-fund misuse probe

The Justice Department issued a grand-jury subpoena to Senator Ruben Gallego’s Juntos PAC, seeking records tied to a federal investigation of his campaign-money use.

Federal prosecutors sent a grand-jury subpoena to the Juntos PAC, the leadership committee of Senator Ruben Gallego, as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into alleged misuse of campaign contributions. The subpoena, issued on August 21, asks for records concerning September 9, 2025, and for the senator’s testimony to the Senate Ethics Committee, which had previously dismissed a related probe in June. A spokesperson for Gallego confirmed that the PAC has provided all requested materials, but did not clarify if the senator, his family, or staff were also targeted.

The investigation stems from reports that donor funds paid for family vacations to Disney resorts, Miami, Chicago, and over $18,000 in childcare reimbursements, including a $400 payment to his mother-in-law. The subpoena also references the joint “Swallego Victory Fund” created with former Rep. Eric Swalwell, which spent more than $37,000 on Super Bowl LVII tickets and meals before being dissolved. The complaint that triggered the Senate ethics review was filed by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna.

Why it matters

The subpoena highlights potential abuse of campaign donations, raising questions about political accountability and legal oversight.
