Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Lim Hui Ying disclosed that 4,646 domestic violence cases were recorded across Malaysia between January and July, marking a significant increase from previous periods. In Johor, reported incidents climbed to 823 from 518 a year earlier, underscoring a growing problem. Lim explained that abuse encompasses not only physical harm but also emotional, psychological, sexual, financial and digital control, often beginning with seemingly normal behaviours such as excessive monitoring or threats.
She called for heightened public vigilance to detect early signs before situations worsen. The briefing coincided with the inauguration of the Aku Wanita @ Domestic Violence (KRT) Well-being Advocacy Programme and the 2026 Johor PRISMAnita Open Day, showcasing the PRISMAnita platform launched by the Prime Minister to streamline referrals, interventions, support, information and advocacy for women. By August, 117 women nationwide had accessed services through PRISMAnita, and the system is available locally via the Johor Women’s Development Office.
