Domestic violence deaths climb 4% in 2025, 111 women killed in France
In 2025, 111 women were murdered by their current or former partners in France, marking a 4% increase and averaging one death every three days.
Official figures released by the French Ministry of the Interior show that 111 women were killed by their spouse or ex-spouse in 2025, a rise of 4% compared with the prior year and equating to roughly one death every three days. The total count of violent deaths within intimate relationships reached 136, including 25 men, while 435 attempted murders were also documented. The majority of these crimes (76%) took place in the victims' or perpetrators' homes, with 52 incidents involving bladed weapons and 30 involving firearms.
Among the female victims, 37% had a history of prior abuse; 61% had reported the violence to police or gendarmerie, and 88% of those reports led to formal complaints. One victim was protected through the "téléphone grave danger" system and another used the "Monshérif" alert button to discreetly signal danger and share her location.
