Domestic worker arrested after 93-year-old employer found dead in Hong Kong flat

Police arrested a domestic worker on suspicion of murder after her 93-year-old employer was discovered unresponsive and later pronounced dead.

Authorities say a domestic worker called for assistance at approximately 8.20 am on Sunday after discovering her 93-year-old employer unresponsive in a Kai Tak flat. Emergency responders attempted resuscitation but the woman was declared dead at 9.12 am. Police searched the residence and found no immediate signs of an attack, yet later obtained video evidence from early Monday showing the worker assaulting the victim with her bare hands around 8 am.

The footage captured repeated blows to the neck, head, and face, as well as pressure on the chest. A forensic examination revealed bruises on the chest and abdomen and abrasions on the neck. The worker was arrested at about 3.50 am on Monday. The victim, who lived alone after her husband’s death decades earlier, suffered from several chronic conditions, prompting the need for round-the-clock care.
