Donald Trump granted a full pardon to Emory Jones, a close associate of Jay-Z who currently holds an executive position at Roc Nation. Jones had been convicted in 1999 of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and sentenced the following year to 188 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. In 2009 his legal team secured a reduction of 37 months after Jay-Z wrote letters supporting his employment at Roc Apparel Group.
Earlier this week, Alice Marie Johnson, herself pardoned by Trump in 2020 and now working as the White House pardon czar, announced the clemency on Instagram, praising the decision as a second-chance opportunity. The pardon clears Jones’s criminal record entirely.
