The tournament, the 16th edition of the competition, is set for Sept. 22-27 at Medinah Country Club in Chicago. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said the invitation reflects the event’s history of engaging leaders from various nations and political backgrounds, and that Trump’s involvement will raise the tournament’s global profile.
In a release, Trump thanked the tour and its new commissioner, Brian Rolapp, for the honor and highlighted the strong line-up of athletes on both sides. The United States currently leads the all-time series 13-1-1, and the International team has never won on U.S. soil. Past honorary chairs have included heads of state and prime ministers from several countries.
