Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann shared that he received a cancer diagnosis at the club’s training ground during the Christmas period last year, when a doctor informed him he had malignant melanoma. He explained that the disease was serious enough that he might have had only five to six weeks to live, but successful treatment has left him well. Reflecting on the club’s difficult opening to the season, McCann said the health scare puts current football pressures into perspective and that nothing is decided in September.
He recalled a strong start the previous season, when the team won five of their first seven games, and expressed belief they can replicate that form. McCann emphasized his focus on improving the squad, maintaining a positive attitude, and that the club will keep pushing regardless of immediate results.
