DOSB Evaluation Panel Ranks Munich First Over Cologne-RheinRuhr and Berlin for Olympic Bid

A DOSB evaluation commission has concluded its assessment of the three German candidates for future Summer Olympic Games, ranking Munich first, Cologne-RheinRuhr second and Berlin third. Munich earned the top marks thanks to its compact concept, while the Cologne-RheinRuhr bid was praised for its ticket-sales potential. Berlin fell behind due to the absence of a local referendum and weaker political backing.

The commission examined each bid across five categories, including vision, cost, infrastructure, sporting and operational readiness, as well as international competitiveness and national acceptance. Although the rankings are advisory, they will inform the vote at a special DOSB assembly in Baden-Baden, where 42 national sport federations, DOSB presidium members and personal members cast ballots. Germany hopes to host the Olympics for the first time since Munich 1972, despite past unsuccessful attempts.
