DP World advances $800 million overhaul of Syria's Tartous port amid Gulf investment surge
DP World is moving forward with an $800 million project to upgrade the Mediterranean port of Tartous in Syria, adding three mobile cranes that will boost cargo capacity by 40%.
The Dubai-based port operator has begun installing three new mobile cranes at Tartous, a move that will raise the facility’s handling ability by roughly four-tenths. In parallel, Qatar’s Power International Holding started work on modernising Damascus airport and pledged $250 million for Syrian Airlines to buy Airbus A320 jets. Dubai developer Mohamed Alabbar also unveiled plans for $20 billion of real-estate projects across the country, including housing, resorts and schools.
