DP World commits $90 million to double capacity at Angola's Luanda port

DP World will invest $90 million over the next two years to more than double the capacity of its terminal at Angola’s Port of Luanda, and the concession has been extended to 2051.

DP World announced a $90 million plan to lengthen the quay and add 15 cranes at the Port of Luanda, enabling two large container ships to be serviced simultaneously and cutting turnaround times by up to half. The upgrade will more than double the terminal’s handling capacity. Angola granted a ten-year extension of the concession, now running to 2051. Since taking over in 2021, DP World has spent over $260 million and container volumes have risen to about 350,000. The firm also aims to invest another $4 billion in Africa.

Why it matters

The expansion strengthens Angola’s trade hub and highlights rising foreign investment in African logistics.
