Driver accused of drug-impaired crash that killed a construction worker faces homicide indictment
A 26-year-old driver charged with homicide after a drug-influenced crash on Townline Road killed Joel Sicon-Porix and injured two coworkers.
Thomas Lobianco, 26, faced a 19-count indictment on Wednesday, including an aggravated vehicle homicide charge, after a crash on Townline Road killed construction worker Joel Sicon-Porix and left two other crew members critically injured. Prosecutors say Lobianco left his shift at a Nesconset 7-Eleven, drove a 1999 Toyota Camry while impaired by drugs, and ran a red light, colliding with the paving crew. The victims included Sicon-Porix, a 38-year-old father of three from Mastic, who died at the scene.
Police found marijuana, clonazepam and drug-related items in Lobianco’s backpack. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney emphasized the danger to workers who perform road repairs near traffic. A judge set bail at $7.5 million, and Lobianco is scheduled to appear in court again on October 14.
