Driver charged after hitting man sleeping in cardboard box at Louisville cemetery

At Bethany Cemetery on Louisville's outskirts, Carl Michael Kinley was found dead after his makeshift cardboard box shelter was run over by a vehicle driven by Brad Brinkley. Witnesses say Brinkley checked the scene, saw Kinley's hand sticking out of the crushed box, and then drove away without reporting the incident. Cemetery groundskeeper Thomas Litsey was informed by Brinkley that a person had been run over, and Litsey initially claimed he discovered the body before later recanting his statement to protect Brinkley.

Police arrested Brinkley on charges including reckless homicide, leaving the scene and tampering with evidence, and set his bond at $250,000. Litsey was also taken into custody for complicity in evidence tampering, with a $50,000 bond. The case highlights concerns about safety and accountability at public burial sites.
