Driver charged with deadly crash after speeding and driving under influence in Szekszárd

A 77-year-old driver was indicted for causing a fatal collision that injured a woman, her child and others after exceeding the speed limit while intoxicated.

The Szekszárd District Prosecutor's Office announced an indictment against a 77-year-old driver for a crash that resulted in one death and serious injuries. While returning from a family celebration, the driver, under moderate alcohol influence, traveled at 123-127 km/h in a curve where the limit is 90 km/h, causing the vehicle to veer onto the left side, overturn and hit a tree. The driver and a male passenger used seatbelts, but the woman seated in the rear and her 7-year-old child were not restrained and the car lacked a child-safety system.

The young male passenger died at the scene, the woman sustained permanent disability and severe health deterioration, and the child is expected to heal over the next 10-12 months. The driver suffered only minor injuries. Prosecutors are seeking imprisonment and a ban on holding any driving or public office positions.
