Driver Charged with Negligent Homicide After Bus Collision Claims Elderly Passenger's Life
A 58-year-old German motorist appeared before the Bülach district court on charges of negligent homicide after her car struck a city bus, killing a 90-year-old passenger.
In Bülach, a district court heard the case of a 58-year-old German woman accused of causing a fatal bus crash. While trying to merge onto Airport Street from a nearby petrol station, she did not notice a line bus traveling toward the airport and collided with it. The collision propelled a 90-year-old female passenger out of her seat, where she struck the front left wheel arch and sustained severe injuries.
She succumbed to those injuries at Zurich University Hospital the next day. All other occupants of the bus, including the driver, escaped injury. Prosecutors have asked the court to impose a conditional eight-month jail sentence, a two-year probation period, and a fine of 1,500 Swiss francs. The court has not yet announced when it will deliver its verdict.
