Driver flees police at over 200 km/h before surrendering near Kiuruvesi

On a Saturday afternoon, a police patrol from Oulun poliisilaitos tried to pull over a driver in Piippola, Siikalatva, for a licence inspection. The driver accelerated away toward Nelostie, reaching speeds exceeding 200 km/h and at times approaching 250 km/h, according to the patrol's speed recorder. The pursuit lasted roughly 122 km, during which the driver evaded two spike strips by making a U-turn and then weaving around a ditch.
Weather conditions included brief rain and hail, but the road was otherwise normal. The chase ended when the driver surrendered on a side road near Kiuruvesi, where officers arrested him, administered a rapid alcohol test, and discovered he lacked a valid driving licence. His vehicle was confiscated, and he faces charges of serious traffic endangerment, drunk driving, and driving without a licence.
