Driver of SUV that killed cyclist Paul Varry to face murder trial
Ariel Marciano, who drove the SUV that fatally struck cyclist Paul Varry in Paris, will be tried for murder before a cour d'assises.
Paris prosecutors will bring Ariel Marciano before a cour d'assises on charges of voluntary homicide for the death of cyclist Paul Varry. After extensive investigations, a investigating judge ordered the trial, citing material, technical and psychological expert reports. Marciano’s defense appealed, claiming he never intended to cause death, but the appellate court dismissed the appeal.
The judge concluded that Marciano intentionally struck Varry, whose death was described as a “wild murder” by the victim’s family lawyer. Marciano, a technico-commercial with a suspended licence and eight points remaining, was briefly released in April before being returned to custody.
