Driver sentenced to six years for causing death of Leeds child

Leeds Crown Court sentenced Colin Agyei to six years’ imprisonment after a jury found him guilty of causing the death of five-year-old Abdullah Ebrahim by dangerous driving. The tragedy happened when Agyei drove a Nissan Note into Back Camberley Street, ignoring a no-entry sign, and collided with the child as he ran across the road. West Yorkshire Police’s investigation indicated Agyei was traveling at roughly 15 mph, well above the street’s safe speed of 7 mph.

Although Agyei had earlier pleaded guilty to a lesser careless-driving offence, he denied the fatal charge. During sentencing, Abdullah’s mother, Salma Begum, recounted the lasting pain of losing her son and the distress of the driver leaving the scene. She emphasized the emotional toll of the four-year legal process and urged the court to remember the family’s loss. Detectives noted the incident was entirely preventable had the driver obeyed the traffic sign.
