Driver seriously injured after police chase ends in collision on Derbyshire A6007
A Volkswagen Golf driver was seriously injured after the vehicle collided with a VW T-Cross during a police pursuit on the A6007 near Heanor.
On Tuesday morning, Derbyshire Police pursued a Volkswagen Golf that ignored a stop order on the A6007 in Heanor. At roughly 12:15, the chase continued toward Ilkeston, and the Golf collided head-on with a VW T-Cross traveling the opposite direction near Hardy Barn in Shipley. The Golf driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains, while the T-Cross driver and passenger suffered no serious injuries.
A Ford Fiesta was also damaged by debris from the impact. Officers reported that an elderly man walking his dog narrowly avoided being struck as he crossed a road between Ilkeston Hospital and the Shipley Park Garden Centre. Because the crash occurred during a police pursuit, Derbyshire Police will refer the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct for investigation.
