Drivers battle for the final NASCAR Chase spots as regular season wanes

Ahead of the Iowa Speedway event, Erik Jones sat 18th in the standings, trailing Austin Cindric by 44 points for the final Chase slot, but a first-lap crash with teammate Tyler Reddick knocked him out. Gibbs captured the win, propelling him from fourth to second in the points table, while Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney and Reddick have already secured their places in the playoffs. Austin Cindric remains just outside the cut line at 526 points, with Ryan Preece the highest driver below it.

Mid-field shuffles saw Chase Briscoe rise to fifth and Christopher Bell climb four spots, while Kyle Larson’s crash dropped him to tenth. With three races left, drivers are also eyeing seeding positions, as points will reset after the Daytona finale on Aug. 29. The battle for spots from sixth to eleventh is especially tight, promising an intense finish to the regular season.
