Drone attacks hit two merchant ships off Bulgaria, one sinks
In the early hours, three drones struck two merchant vessels in the Black Sea near Bulgaria’s coast. The Maltese‑flagged cargo ship owned by a Ukrainian company was hit about 18 nautical miles east of Byala and later sank, with all crew rescued and five treated for light injuries. A second, unidentified merchant ship was also struck roughly 17–30 nautical miles east of Krapets; one crew member was rescued and the vessel’s fate remains unclear.
Prime Minister Rumen Radev condemned the attacks as "absolutely unacceptable," summoned Russian ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova for talks, and said the incidents appear to favor the Russian Federation. He has requested assistance from the European Union and NATO and said he will discuss the matter with NATO Secretary‑General Mark Rutte.
