Drone sighting forces temporary 45-minute shutdown of Berlin Brandenburg Airport
A drone was detected at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, prompting air-traffic control to halt operations on both runways for 45 minutes before resuming service.
Around 20:00, a drone was sighted in the vicinity of Berlin Brandenburg Airport, leading Deutsche Flugsicherung to shut down the north runway for take-offs and landings. Fifteen minutes later the south runway was also closed, halting all flight movements. The closure remained in effect for 45 minutes, ending at 21:05 when the runways were reopened.
Airport officials and the Bundespolizei reported that normal operations had resumed. This incident adds to a total of seven drone-related interruptions recorded at the airport, the highest number among German airports in the first half of the year, with 28 sightings.
