Drone strike hits Ukrainian-Azerbaijani cargo vessel near Romania, several crew missing
A cargo ship named Khoryv was struck by a Russian drone off Romania’s coast, killing one crew member, rescuing nine and leaving three still missing.
The Ukrainian-Azerbaijani flagged cargo ship Khoryv was hit by a Russian drone just outside Romania’s territorial sea, roughly 13 nautical miles east of the port city of Constanța. The vessel transmitted an emergency signal on Friday, prompting Romanian coast-guard units to intervene. Rescue vessels retrieved nine crew members alive and recovered one deceased sailor; three others are still missing. The attack, which took place within Romania’s economic zone but beyond its territorial limit, is the fourth drone-related strike on a merchant ship near the Romanian coast in October. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen condemned the incident as a breach of international law and expressed sympathy for the victims’ families.
