Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev announced via Telegram that a drone strike ignited a fire at the Afipsky oil refinery in the southern Krasnodar region. Falling debris from the drone hit the Afipsky railway station, killing two individuals and wounding two others. The refinery, largely oriented toward export, handled roughly 7.2 million metric tons of crude oil in 2024.
Ukrainian forces have been attacking Russian oil processing sites to hamper the country's war effort and revenue. A recent similar assault on the Perm refinery forced it to cease operations after a fire damaged its processing units. The Afipsky plant has faced multiple drone attacks over recent months.
