Drone strike sparks fire at Russian oil pumping station in Tambov Oblast
A fire erupted at an oil pumping facility near Michurinsk in Tambov Oblast after a Ukrainian drone attack on Oct. 20, with officials reporting no injuries.
On the night of Oct. 20, a Ukrainian drone raid triggered a blaze at an oil pumping installation near Michurinsk in Russia's Tambov Oblast. Governor Yevgeny Pervyshov reported that four drones were shot down and that the fire occurred on the premises of an unnamed enterprise in Michurinsky District, noting that no casualties were recorded. Footage shared by the Exilenova+ monitoring channel displayed dark smoke above what residents identified as a diesel fuel tank.
Independent outlet ASTRA linked the incident to the Nikolskoye-1 linear production and dispatch station near Novonikolskoye, a major Transneft-run facility on the Druzhba pipeline network. The station lies about 350-400 km from the Ukrainian frontline and is a key conduit for Russian crude to Hungary and Slovakia. Ukrainian officials have not yet confirmed involvement, and the fire could not be independently verified. The site was previously hit on Aug. 18 2025, when drones from Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces halted operations on the Druzhba line.
Why it matters
The incident threatens a vital segment of the Druzhba pipeline that delivers Russian oil to European markets.
