Drones spotted near Amritsar airport prompt flight diversions and security alert

Late on Sunday night, suspected drone-like objects were detected near Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport in Amritsar, triggering a major security response. Anirudh Sharma, who also serves as Airport Director, confirmed the sighting and said that landing operations were suspended for over an hour, from 9.50 pm to 11.15 pm. As a precaution, seven incoming flights were diverted—two to Chandigarh and five to Delhi.

Police were notified and have begun investigating the nature and origin of the objects, while the Central Industrial Security Force heightened its vigilance. Authorities have not ruled out locally operated drones entering restricted airspace, and they are also examining the possibility of a cross-border element given past incidents involving drones from the Pakistan side. The investigation remains ongoing to determine the exact source and type of the flying objects.
