Drunk Passenger Overpowers Crew on American Airlines Flight, Forced to Land and Be Arrested

During a morning flight from Dallas to Newark, a 67-year-old passenger, reportedly intoxicated, began harassing his seat neighbor, a New York-based author and rabbi, and verbally abusing the cabin crew, including using the N-word. Witnesses said he also made vulgar, misogynistic remarks and attempted to strike a woman who intervened. Crew members and other passengers restrained him with heavy-duty duct tape and cable ties, leading the aircraft to execute an emergency landing at a Baltimore-area airport.

The man was taken into custody and later faced a Maryland court, where he asserted he could not recall attacking a police officer. American Airlines issued a statement emphasizing passenger safety and a zero-tolerance policy for violence, while his employer announced his dismissal. The case is set to continue in Maryland courts in October.
