Drunk truck driver assaults BJP MLA Ritu Baran Sarmah with dagger in Guwahati
A reportedly intoxicated truck driver attacked BJP MLA Ritu Baran Sarmah outside her Guwahati office, brandishing a dagger before police detained him.
A truck driver, said to be drunk, caused a disturbance in Guwahati's Sonitpur district by ramming a vehicle belonging to BJP workers outside the office of MLA Ritu Baran Sarmah. The driver then drew a dagger and acted aggressively, prompting intervention from party members, home guards and police. Two home guards were injured, one sustaining a finger wound.
Police, aided by a constable who threw sand into the driver's eyes, managed to subdue and detain him, and he is now receiving medical treatment. Authorities have registered a case and will present him before a court. No party workers were harmed as they were inside the office at the time.
