DSW health insurance premiums to jump by nearly €15 next year, the biggest rise ever
DSW announced its 2025 health-insurance premium will increase by almost €15 a month, pushing the total to just over €173, the largest hike the insurer has ever recorded.
DSW, the fourth-largest health insurer in the Netherlands, disclosed on Wednesday that its 2025 monthly premium will climb by almost €15, bringing the total to just over €173 - a rise it calls the largest ever for the company. The surge is largely attributed to higher healthcare expenses, especially rising wages for medical staff and general price inflation, while a modest increase in the volume of care also plays a role.
The mandatory annual deductible will rise for the first time in eleven years, from €385 to €400, which DSW expects to shave less than €1 off the monthly premium. To soften the impact, the insurer will draw roughly €25 million from its reserves, preventing an additional €4-plus increase. Nonetheless, the new premium still surpasses the Ministry of Health’s earlier projection of about €12.50 per month, a gap DSW attributes to reduced government reimbursements for home nursing and mental-health services.
Why it matters
Higher premiums affect millions of Dutch households and signal rising healthcare costs nationwide.
