Dubai Arrest of Antwerp Cocaine Network Leader Sparks Belgian Legal Action

A 38-year-old man linked to a large-scale cocaine operation through the port of Antwerp was detained in Dubai and faces a 12-year prison term in Belgium.

Authorities arrested a 38-year-old resident of Dubai who was convicted in absentia by the Antwerp criminal court in May 2026 to twelve years in prison for leading a drug trafficking ring that imported and distributed at least 854 kilograms of cocaine via the port of Antwerp. The investigation, uncovered through intercepted messages on the compromised Sky ECC app, also resulted in the June 2023 seizure of 44 kilograms of cocaine, firearms and cash.

Belgian prosecutors confiscated five million euros of criminal gains and are pursuing a further case involving cocaine imports through the same port, requesting a seven-year term for the suspect. The man was apprehended in Dubai two months after his Belgian conviction and is now facing the imposed sentence.

Why it matters

The case highlights international cooperation against large-scale drug trafficking and the reach of Belgian law enforcement.
